Haiti - Reconstruction : Meeting between Ramdin and Thomas Adams
Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), met on Monday, Thomas Adams, the new Special Coordinator of the U.S. State Department to take stock of reconstruction efforts in Haiti and on the next election November.

During this working meeting, the two officials agreed that four groups, the most vulnerable "youth, women, disabled and elderly must be taken into account in the short and long term development plans".

The Special Coordinator of the OAS, stressed that maintaining the long-term commitment and international interest in the progress of Haiti have been a real challenge but stressed "we must be realistic about what we can and what we can not do in a certain period of time" believing that "more coordination between international partners is needed to facilitate the rebuilding process". For these two officials, Haitians are solely responsible for their future and the international community can only help.

For Ambassador Ramdin "full restoration of Haiti necessitates the creation of a strong middle class" which in his point of view is through education programs at higher levels, vocational training, and ultimately the jobs.

Regarding the increase in violence seen at 2 months of the elections, the Secretary General of the OAS said that "everything is in place to ensure the safety" and he expected that the day of election is relatively calm.

Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin seems to have received instructions from MINUSTAH, which by the voice of Edmond Mulet, continues for weeks to report in all circumstances and to anyone who will listen that the situation is under control and that people should not worry, the police force (PNH) and MINUSTAH's are there to ensure peace and security.

Without wishing to report in detail, the upsurge in banditry in recent months (murders, robberies, assaults, kindnapping, robbery etc...), just look at the assessment of last murderer weekend to remember that "beautiful soothing words" are not sufficient to secure an explosive social climate that every day becomes a little more dangerous. Hopefully the presence of Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin on election day in Haiti so that he realizes by himself the situation of calm he tells us.
