Haiti - Politic : Evans Paul in favor of an army in the country

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Evans Paul, accompanied among other by Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health, Fresner Dorcin, Minister of Agriculture and Lener Renauld, Minister of Defence, visited the Artibonite department where he has installed the Board of Directors of the hospital La Providence of Gonaïves, visited the premises of the Agency for the Development of the Artibonite Valley (ODVA) and the Headquarters of the Haitian Corps of Military Engineering, in Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite.

He proceeded to the inauguration of the Board of Directors of La Providence Hospital in the presence of the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti, Paula Caldwell St-Onge and the Bishop of Gonaïves Monsignor Yves Marie Péan Recalling that this hospital at the cutting edge of technology, inaugurated in November 2014 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12435-haiti-health-inauguration-of-the-hospital-la-providence-in-gonaives.html of more than 10,000 m2 with a capacity of 200 beds, was built at a cost of 32 million US dollars, includes the following: an emergency with a capacity of 20 beds, 4 surgery rooms, an obstetrics and gynecology space with a capacity of 40 beds, 10 maternity delivery beds, a neonatal room with a capacity of 16 incubators, a pediatrics with a capacity of 20 beds and 20 cradles, a room of dentistry, medical imaging room, laboratory and pharmacy

The Head of Government and the Minister Guillaume reminded the hospital administrators and inhabitants that the Providence Hospital "does not belong only to Gonaïves or to Artibonitiens [...] it is Haitian good that we all need to protect."

The premises of ODVA, Evans Paul, promised to supply fertilizers, the farmers' associations and the peasants. He said recognizing the agricultural wealth of the department, Haiti's breadbasket and the benefits of the construction of the dam of Péligre which provides both electricity and water for irrigation in the Artibonite.

Moreover, recalling his personal troubles with the military, the Prime Minister, who was speaking to the officers and soldiers of the Corps of Military Engineering, based in Petite Rivière, spoke in favor of a military defense corps for the Republic. "If, for their personal needs, humans protect themselves in their home, why not a Nation ?", wondered Mr. Evans Paul when close his tour in the Artibonite.
