Friday, Jean-Marie Guillaume, Director General of the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL) and Jean Vernet Henry, Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH) signed a partnership agreement protocol between the two institutions in the presence Fritz Deshommes, Vice-Rector for Research, Jean Elie Erol, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Jean-Marie Altéma, Deputy Director General of CONATEL.

In the Protocol of Agreement the two institutions have committed to work towards strengthening the legal and regulatory framework of the telecommunications sector, to the organization of radio and television broadcasting, the Digital planning and the promotion of conditions conducive to greater profitability of telecommunications networks.

"The signing of this Protocol of Agreement, aims to allow the CONATEL to put to contribution the skills of the various faculties of the State University of Haiti to study, explain, manage, disseminate and implement the principles underlying the mission of the regulator that we are," declared Jean-Marie Guillaume adding "We want by this agreement amplify the voice of the University in the great national debate, strengthen its status of temple of the authorized speech, make it a key player and more and more efficient in economic life."

Mr. Guillaume recalled that beyond a simple cooperation, this protocol is a precedentwhich must be maintained. "The health of the telecommunications sector is at stake. And also of the health of the national economy. But above all of the role to be played by the University in the modernization of our society in the age of Information Technology and Communication and the need to mobilize the academic knowledge at the service of public policy for a society in which the obligation of results becomes the rule."

The Rector Jean Vernet Henry thanked CONATEL who answered to a long and silent waiting of the UEH. "I am delighted to see that the alumni are turning to it to solicit services that are within the same framework of its powers," recalling tha the State University of Haiti is a public service, what too often people tend to forget. He welcomed the partnership between these two great public institutions and expressed the hope that other State entities followed suit to CONATEL.
