Haiti - Agriculture : $1.7M to strengthen agricultural sectors

Thursday Fresner Dorcin, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development and Fritz Ohler, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), signed three project documents aimed at strengthening various agricultural sectors, for a total of nearly 1.7 million US dollars.

Development and Transformation project of the dairy industry in Haiti :

This project with a duration of 9 months, FAO-funded to the tune of 309,000 dollars, will provide accompaniment to producers and dairy managers to enable them to better control the dairy technology and marketing, and to be more competitive on the dairy market.

Technical and institutional assistance project :

This project with a duration of 4 years, of technical and institutional assistance program of support to the Governance of the food and nutrition security in Haiti, funded by the European Union to the tune of 800,000 Euros (+/- 850,000 US dollars), aims to strengthen the institutional and technical capacity of program partners structures, at national and local level.

Project to support the revitalization of the seed sector :

This project with a duration of 18 months, funded by the Haitian government with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to the tune of $ 500,000, aims include : the formulation of a policy, of a seed strategy, a plan for the development of the sector, the definition of a legal framework governing the production, marketing, quality control and certification of seeds and plants.
