Haiti - Insecurity : An engineer from the IOM shot twice
A Haitian-born engineer, Pierre Denis Richard, 42, responsible for the supervision of shelters construction in camp Corail-Cesselesse, employed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), was murdered on Friday . This compelled the IOM to suspend work on a part of the site.
According to Leonard Doyle, spokesman for the IOM, the body of the engineer was found dead near the camp Corail Cesselesse apparently several hours after receiving two bullets fired by one or more unknown.
Denis turned over to his work in the shared taxi after being cashed in Port-au-Prince his first paycheck. According to police investigating the murder, witnesses declared that the unknown ones on a motorcycle followed the taxi. The police force wonders whether apart from the flight which seems to be the principal mobile of the crime, the engineer would not have been killed because he worked for the IOM, the victim was indeed wearing a cap identifying his affiliation with the NGOs. Investigators were found indices but no arrests have been made.
William Lacy Swing, Director General, IOM said in an email "It was a despicable act against a talented and hardworking IOM staff member totally dedicated to helping the earthquake victims and their families".
