Haiti - Social : A very good initiative

The Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) continues and strengthens its citizenship education program, a activity that takes place in the form of one-hour talks, where students are made aware among others on the importance of citizenship, their rights and duties and the protection of the environment. The ultimate objective of this activity is to train a new generation of citizens through the acquisition of a new culture of human rights in the country. The animators also inform students about the mission of the OPC within the Public Administration.

These talks in schools are a constituent element of the education program for citizenship, values, democracy and human rights of the OPC, which aims to build another model of society.

"Children are the leaders of tomorrow, future users of the public service. This is why it is necessary to train upstream to generate in them the love of country," explained Jude Jn, Pierre, Director for the promotion of human rights in OPC.

This program started in 2000, was resumed on October 6, 2009 by Florence Elie, Protector of the Citizen. So far, over 30,000 students have benefited from this program throughout the country.

In late February, in the space of one week 1,079 schoolchildren in Gonaïves and Saint Marc, have benefited from this civic education.
