Haiti - Security : Dominican military reinforcement at the border of Dajabón

Since Sunday prevails a strong tension in the city of Ouanaminthe, where Haitians have announced a protest front of the Dominican Consulate in that locality, against the alleged bad-treatment suffered by our countrymen in the Dominican Republic.

Given the increase risk of incidents in Haitian communities in areas near the border town of Dajabón, military vigilance was increased. Early Monday morning in the border area, it was observed, an increased presence of soldiers of CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre), as well as the deployment of several riot trucks.

This unusual oversight and the operations of mobile military equipment, are led by General Carlos Aguirre Reyes, Director of CESFRONT "Troops are stationed at strategic locations on the shores of the Massacre River and close to the border bridge, as preventive measures," explained General Reyes. He also indicated that according to his information, individuals would consider to take advantage of days of binational markets to trigger unrest.
