Haiti - Elections : Charles Henri Baker announced his campaign in Florida

The candidate and businessman Charles Henri Baker at a meeting front a group of Haitian-Americans in Palm Beach County commission chambers, has informed that he is running to become Haiti's next president. Explaining that it had come to Florida because 2 million Haitians live in the United States and that the diaspora can influence the vote in Haiti.

He urged Haitians of the diaspora to call their families and encourage them to vote [and make the right choice...] reiterating its commitment, conviction and determination to bring about real change in Haiti. During the meeting, Baker, showing his electoral card, bearing his signature and thumbprint, said that to avoid electoral fraud "the system should be foolproof", while acknowledging that this was not the case and that this should change.

Like other candidates, Charles Henri Baker is seeking support from the diaspora, so that it plays an active role in the next elections while acting like lever on the votes of their family in Haiti. Families which receive nearly 2 billion dollars each year from the diaspora.

"If you put a good president [at the head of the country] that sets up a good government and reestablishes the authority of the state, you will have a safe country and a stable country to go to," said Mr. Baker.
