Following the tragedy that occurred during the Carnival in Port-au-Prince, Tuesday, February 17, His Eminence Cardinal Chilby Langlois, Bishop of Les Cayes and President of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) "wishes to express its condolences to the families of deceased and to express his wishes of speedy recovery to the many people injured in this unfortunate incident. All, some like the others, hoping only a little joy that has gone wrong.

Asking the Father, from whom all mercy comes, to welcome in peace and in the light of His Kingdom those tragically died, the CEH also wants to ensure of its prayers all persons and families affected so hard by that painful event. With all their heart, Bishops send them the apostolic blessing and promise to unite in meditation with all compatriots who will participate on Saturday 21 February in the celebration of national funeral of the victims.

The Episcopal Conference of Haiti, takes this opportunity to invite everyone to the same caution in their relaxing moment. It emphasizes at the same time the need for the authorities and all the bodies concerned, to do everything to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

May we, at the beginning of Lent, offer our penance to the Lord for Haiti and its victims."
