Haiti - Security : The mysterious red zones

Commissioner Frantz Lerebours spokesman for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) said yesterday Thursday that the PNH had identified 10 sites they see as "red zones" because of the disturbances which are usually recorded during elections but refused to identify them by name.

The spokesman gave assurances that all measures have been taken to secure the people of these areas before, during and after the upcoming elections in November.

"We are ready to secure voters, candidates and polling stations located in both zones "red" as in other regions of the country" adding that the unit of maintenance of order are also equipped to cope with potential crowd movements.

Lerebours Commissioner also said that the Direction Centrale de la Police Routière (DCPR) is also involved in setting up safety plans for the PNH as well for the election period as for the new school year scheduled for Monday, October 4.
