Haiti - Climate : Vigilance yellow for 4 departments and the North

A large area of disorganized convection (rain and thunderstorms) influence the weather conditions in the basin of the Caribbean today. This could generate moderate to heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds especially on the southern departments, nippes, and grande-anse and north-west today and tomorrow.

To this end, the Permanent Secretariat of Risk Management and Disaster (Secrétariat Permanent de Gestion des Risques et des Désastres SPGRD) declares this Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10:00am the level of yellow vigilance (impact risk mild to moderate) for; heavy rainfall in the in the National Contingency Plan threats of heavy rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms with flood risk from rivers, mudslides, landslides and low-intensity flooding in particular on the departments of South, Nippes, Grande Anse, Artibonite and the North of the country.

The National Meteorological Center (Centre National de Météorologie CNM) in conjunction with the SPGRD and Direction of Civil protection is asking the population living in areas at flood risk, to remain vigilant and to implement faithfully the safety instructions in case of flooding, mudslides, landslides and storms.
