Friday at the hospital Bernard Mevs in Port-au-Prince ended an intensive 3-day training on cancer treatment to the attention of doctors and nurses of the 10 departments of the country.

This training launched by the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) in conjunction with the University of Florida and the Project Medishare marks a new ministry commitment to strengthen the training this year. As part of the implementation of the first phase of the National Cancer treatment program, these efforts are aimed at increasing the scope of treatment and care across the country.

"An improved access to consultation and greater availability of medical treatment for the entire population throughout the country, will allow a treatment of the disease at an earlier stage," stated Dr. Jean Ronald Cornely, Director of the Oncology Program of the Ministry of Health "Access to medical care early in the disease greatly increases the chances of successful treatment."

During these three days, 20 doctors and 32 nurses from 10 departments received training that addressed include: cancer treatment protocol at different stages; diagnostics; the administration of the therapy; surgery to treat breast cancer, prostate, cervix; cancer associated with HIV / AIDS. The objective was to train doctors and nurses nationwide to teach them to work within the framework of a national network of oncological of reference.

The training was led by Dr. Jean Ronald Cornely, Dr. Elsie Metellus Chalumeau of the Hospital of the University of the Haitian State (HUEH), the staff of the Hospital Bernard Mevs in Port-au-Prince, as well as three American experts from the University of Florida and the University of Miami. his program was made possible through the support of Living Hope Haiti, a non-governmental organization.
