Haiti - FLASH : Fuel price decrease

"The Ministry of Communication informs the public that, following negotiations between the Ministry of Economy and Finances and several unions, petroleum prices were revised downward and set as follows:

- Gasoline 95 (-7.5%) down from 215 to 210 gourdes (-15 gourdes)

- Diesel (-9.27%) down from 177 to 167 gourdes (-15 gourdes)

- Kerosene (-6.3%) down from 171 to 161 (-10 gourdes)

The new prices will be effective from Monday, February 2, 2015.

In addition, the Ministry of Economy and Finances intends to apply the automatic adjustment system in the coming weeks, depending on the cost of oil on the international market

On the other hand, the Ministry of Communications announced that the talks will be initiated between the Ministry of Social Affairs and unions from Monday, February 2, 2015 to determine the new price of transit through the territory."

Noted that beyond the announcement effect of the new Government Martelly-Paul, this is in fact the cancellation of the higher fuel price set Friday, October 10, 2014 by the Government Martelly-Lamothe https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12238-haiti-notice-painful-increases-in-fuel-prices.html [in order to reduce the burden of fuel subsidy, which borrows the country several billion gourdes per year] and not a reduction in prices, which reflect the downward trend in oil prices on the international market.
