Haiti - Economy : General Index of Consumer Prices (December 2014)

The General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) has increased in December 2014, rising to 224.7 against 223.4 in November, a 6.4% yoy increase of +0.6% MoM.

The indices that have contributed most to the monthly increase are "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" (+ 0.7%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 0.8%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" (+0.8 %) and "other goods and services" (+ 0.9%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget results from the increase of products such as beef (+ 1.1%), pork (+0.9 %), goat meat (+ 1.3%), chicken (+ 3.8%), fresh fish (+ 0.7%), cod (+ 1.5%), eggs (+ 0.8%), banana (+ 3.1%), pumpkin (+ 3.8%), the marker (+ 3.9%), aubergine (+ 3.1%), cabbage (+ 4.4%), onion (+ 2.9%), carrot (+ 2.4%), tomato (+ 2.5%), yam (+ 3.2%), malanga (+ 3.3%), cassava (+ 2.9%), potatoes (+ 3.5%), potatoes (+ 3.1%), orange (+ 2.4%), grapefruit (+ 1.6%), coffee powder (+ 0.6%) and cigarettes (+ 0.8%).

The increase observed in the index "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear"is mainly due to the increase in products such as tissues (+ 1.8%), the costume, universal jacket (+ 0.9%) and clothing manufacturing (+ 1.0%) of shoes and tennis (+ 0.9%), and sandals (+ 1.0%).

The price increase of "rent housing, Energy and Water" owes its growth mainly to the variations: of the rent housing (+ 1.6%), kerosene (+ 0.3%) and charcoal (+ 0.2%).

The upward trend of the index "Other goods and services" is due to the increase in shampoo (+ 1.8%), perfume, toilet water (+ 1.1%), toilet powder (+ 4.6% ), the body cream (+ 2.1%) and other hair care products (+ 0.8%).

Furthermore, it should be noted that in recent months, the acceleration of prices was observed more in local products (+ 0.6%) than imports (+ 0.2%) which benefited from the downward trend, characterizing world prices in recent times.

Metropolitan Area: +0.7% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.7% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.4% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.7% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.6% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
