Haiti - Justice : 17 people arrested following the death of policeman Guillioteau

The departmental authorities of the police force of Sud' East took stock in front of the press Saturday, September 25, on the death of the police officer Guillioteau Hubert, lynched by the population of Cayes Jacmel and the fire of the offices of the police chief and the National office of Identification (ONI) Thursday, September 23.

According to information entrusted to journalists by Herve Julien, departmental director of the regional police "Steps will be taken to apprehend all authors and co-authors of this act. The death of the policeman Guillioteau Hubert is not a matter for the Haitian National Police, but the entire government" echoing Mario Andresol, Director General of National Police who visited the area to assess the situation last Friday.

"The strict order was given to the high command of the police force of Sud' Is to track all the accomplices of this crime some is the place where they are on the Haitian territory and to give them to justice", he added strongly criticizing the passivity of local authorities in the town of Cayes Jacmel, including the mayors who have shown no leadership when the people committing this crime.

For his part, Jacques Petit Onécifort spokesman of the police Sud'Est announced the release of 10 of the 27 who were arrested by officers of the Departmental Unit for Law Enforcement (Unité Départementale de Maintien de l’Ordre UDMO) at operations conducted on the evening of Thursday 13 and Friday, September 24, 2010 in Cayes Jacmel. As for the other 17 people presumed guilty, they will be shortly referred to the prosecution of Jacmel for judicial action. Jacques Petit has also indicated that the police intend to continue with investigations. For now the Commissioner Cayes Jacmel is currently operating under the protection of police UDMO.

Omar Garat, leader of the Movement for National Reconstruction (Mouvement pour la Reconstruction Nationale MNR) in an interview granted to Haitilibre yesterday Monday, designated authorities of the police and Justice, as responsible, in death of police officer Guillioteau. "As long as impunity reigns in the community these crimes continue to be perpetuated in society" Recalling the death of Marckenson Zelou, [April 2009] a young boy of 25, shot dead by members of the procession of government "LESPWA" at the time of the legislative electoral campaign in the commune of Cayes Jacmel. "One year later, no light was made on this file in order to return justice to the victim". Concerning the death of the policeman Guillioteau he describes as demagogic and reprisals the interventions of the police forces of police station of Jacmel.

The police station of Cayes Jacmel (burned) had just been renovated by the Spanish Cooperation and the departmental persons in charge of the PNH planned are unveiling by the end of the month.

Let us note that, the police officer Guillioteau Hubert, graduating student in Legal Science at the Faculty of Law of Jacmel had to support his thesis project before his lynching around the theme "Violence" (Ma Violence).
