Haiti - Heritage : Exhibition in Paris on the fabulous caves of Haiti

From 5 to 21 January 2015 will be held the exhibition "Caves of Haiti, between imaginary and Realities" organized by the Association Cavemen. This exhibition is the result of 5 years of research carried out under the auspices of the Haitian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, by cavers Carole Devillers, Jean-François Fabriol and Olivier Testa, will be present at the UNESCO House in Paris.

This is the first time outside the borders of Haiti, that will be highlighted these geological wealth and their heritage significance in the culture and the history of Haiti.

Through a series of photographs of cavers and multimedia content, the exhibition invites visitors to travel in 6 departments of Haiti and to discover the beauties including of : caves Marie Jeanne, Madame Lefan or Mamé, the Chasm Pas Perdu Pas Trouve, le Bim Séjourné, the Canyon Casse-cou...

In 45 panels, the exhibition aims to show the true treasures of Haiti that are the caves, carved extensively in the heart of the limestone by water. Through a free path, the visitor enters the depths of the caves, which are an essential element of the Haitian imagination. Apart from their role in pre-Columbian populations who were performing mystic rites, the caves are also attached at maroons and the history of Haitian independence. They are still the venue for Vodou ceremonies, and many legends associated to them.

The exhibition is open to the general public, young and old enthusiasts of discovery, to the curious about history and foreign cultures, to the public sensitive to the problems that Haiti encounter, as the Haitian diaspora. It is recommended that visitors bring their smartphone or tablet to access media supplements via the "QRcode" (recited stories, book excerpts, additional images...)

Free admission upon presentation of identification. Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm
