Haiti - Tourism : The growth of tourists is confirmed

The number of tourists stay, continues to increase in Haiti. 362,980 tourists visited Haiti (January-September 2014), against 299,686 for the same period in 2013, representing an increase of 21.12%.

As for the cruise passengers, the rise although modest, remains constant: 477,128 passengers disembarked in Labadee, for the first three quarters of 2014, against 474,440 for the same period in 2013.

In total for the last three quarters, 840.108 visitors (cruise passengers and tourists stay) benefited from Haiti destination.

According to studies conducted by the Society of Management, Execution, Supervision and Evaluation of Programs (SOGESEP), a tourists stay spends an average of 160 US dollars a day in Haiti and a cruise passenger 60 dollars. What represents for that period, an economic impact estimated at more than 174 million (average stay equivalent to 3 days) and 28 million for cruise passengers, for a total of currency injected into the Haitian economy, of a little more than $200 million.

Recall that according to the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) for 2013, the tourism sector is part of the branch of activity (trade, restaurants and hotels) the most dynamic, has contributed to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 5%.
