Haiti - Health : 10 new ambulances for the CAN 16/12/2014 08:42:00
Monday, to the Ambulance National Center (CAN) [street Jacques Romains - Airport Road], the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, attended the delivery ceremony of 10 ambulances donated by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The ceremony took place in the presence of Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, the Minister of Health, Dr. Rajiv Shav, General Administrator of USAID, technical and financial partners and executives of the ministry. The donation of 10 ambulances done by USAID to the CAN enable it to strengthen its North-East network and open the South. Dr. Rajiv Shah, believes that with this donation of ambulances, the Haitian health system is going to experience an improvement in emergency care. According to him "70% of Haitian women give birth at home because of the precarious conditions of precarious conditions of interventions of medical emergency services," stressing as well that a "sustained support to the ministry is fundamental." "All great achievements of the world were born because someone dared to think about it," it is in these terms that the Minister Guillaume spoke to express her appreciation to the First Lady, the initiator of the establishment of the CAD. The Minister Guillaume, congratulated the employees of the CAN for their seriousness and the dedication they show in the performance of their duties and invited everyone to work for the sustainability of this essential institution. Sophia Martelly, believes that the issue of access to care constitutes a whole in which each element is crucial. For her, an ambulance is often the gateway of a patient to the hospital, noting "for this, they must exist in sufficient quantities, and that they are solidly equipped to be effective [...] I will continue to commit myself and involve where my voice, my support can be used to make a difference," concluded the First Lady.
