Haiti - News Flash : Violent storm, 2,000 tents destroyed, at least 5 dead

A violent and sudden storm [which was not a tropical storm] fell down yesterday on Port-au-Prince. The storm was unpredictable and no warning had been issued accordingly. Heavy rains and strong winds ripped roofs from homes, toppled trees and power pylons in many areas of Port-au-Prince submerged by torrents of water that are dumped on the capital within hours.

The provisional results reported five people dead including two girls and a wife of 93 years and several reports of dozens of injured, trapped under fallen trees and shelter collapsed. The cluster coordination and camp management now estimates that at least 2,000 tents have been damaged and / or destroyed through Port-au-Prince. The damage assessments are underway and these numbers could well increase.
