Haiti - Social : D-1 of the 3rd edition of the Christmas Market of the Great South

Wednesday, at a press conference, Dithny Joan Raton, Southeast Tourism Director and her Consultant, Michaelle Craan officially launched the 3rd edition of the Christmas Market of the Great South to be held at tourist port of Jacmel from 12 to December 14, 2014.

During these three days, the city of Jacmel renowned for its hospitality is ready to welcome visitors.

For this 3rd edition organized, the Moro Creations (Art Utile SA) and the Women Artisans grouping, of Jacmel invite you to discover the variety and quality of their products. The showcase-artisan will give you a taste of the findings that you can buy. From 12 to 14 December, several artists await you with high quality shows, at the tourist port (Big bang of the Dessaix Baptiste music school, Fabienne Denis, dance show...) and at the Convention Center (Emeline Michel, Beethova...) Not to mention the parade, amusement rides, activities for children, decorating workshops, tastings of local products, a mini book fair, exhibitions and nursery.

A budget of nearly 3 million gourdes was allocated to the Departmental Directorate of Tourism South East for organizing this Christmas market. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries contributes to the tune of 2.5 million gourdes and other local institutions, private and public also contribute.

Furthermore, this edition of the Christmas market will coincide with the celebration of the designation of Jacmel as "creative city" by UNESCO for its crafts and folk arts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12652-haiti-culture-jacmel-listed-in-unesco-for-its-crafts-folk-arts.html . Michael Craan stressed the merits of this label awarded to Jacmel called cultural capital of Haiti. "The craftsmanship of Jacmel dazzled both nationals and foreigners who have the chance to visit this city. It deserves well this recognition by UNESCO."
