Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (October 2014)

The overall Index of Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004) increased during the month of August 2014, rising to 222.2 against 220.8 in September, a 5.8% yoy increase of +0.5% compared to September [5.3%]. The monthly inflation in October rose 0.6% against 0.4% in September 2014.

This monthly increase, results primarily of the behavior of other consumer functions such as "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" (+ 0.4%), "Clothing and Textiles, Footwear" (+ 0.4%), "Housing Rent, Energy and Water "(+ 1.0%) and" Transport "(+ 2.4%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget is the result of the increase in products such as rice (+ 0.5%), cornflakes (0, 4%), pork (+ 0.7%), chicken (+ 1.9%), cod (+ 0.9%), milk powder (+ 1.1%), bananas (1.7 %) giraumont (+ 0.8%), the marker (+ 0.7%), green peas (+ 0.7%), leek (+ 2.4%), onion (+ 1.2%), garlic (+ 0.8%), carrots (+ 1.9%), tomatoes (+ 2.7%), yam (+ 2.3%), malanga (+ 2.8%), cassava (+ 2.3 %), potatoes (+ 2.9%), potatoes (+ 2.1%), orange (+ 0.6%) and cigarettes (+ 1.1%).

The increase observed in the index "Clothing and Textile Shoes" is the result of the increase in products such as tissues (+ 0.4%), the costume, universal jacket (+ 0.9%), the skirt (+ 1.6%), clothing clothing (+ 0.7%), and tennis shoes (+ 0.8%) and sandals (+ 0.9%).

The increase in the rent of accommodation (+ 0.5%) and kerosene (+ 1.7%) are responsible for the increase of the "Rent Housing, Energy and Water".

Finally, the inflationary index "Transport" results mainly from rising prices of gasoline and diesel (+ 8.7%) and private vehicle maintenance (+ 1.1%) and public transport (+ 1.7%).

Metropolitan Area: +0.6% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.7% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.65% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.6% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.5% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
