Haiti - Insecurity : Reinforcement of safety in Pétion-Ville

Jean-Francois Vezina, spokesman for the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) announced today an increase in its workforce and operations in Pétion-Ville.

"The number of UN police deployed in Petion-Ville were increased from 25 to 40 police officer since September 21st" said the spokesman at a press conference, adding that this new disposition was part of a new action plan to deal with crimes that have proliferated in recent weeks [murder, kidnapping, assault, theft, robbery] in this sector partially residential with strong commercial concentration.

He explained that now, with the application of this new plan, all vehicles and people that will travel at night in Pétion-Ville will be controlled. Hope that this reinforcement, which is welcome, will allow to reduce the insecurity increasing to Pétion-Ville formerly regarded as a zone "relatively quiet".
