Haiti - Politic : The MCI supports the Consumer Associations

Saturday ended a 3-day training workshop on "Ethics and Axiology (theory of values)", organized by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI) through the quality control and consumer protection Directorate, for the benefit of forty members of Departmental federations of consumer associations came from across the country.

This workshop aimed to sensitize the various persons responsible of consumer organizations on issues related to trade and movement of goods and products in the country and make recommendations for the development of a code of ethics of the Haitian consumer.

It also aimed to develop an understanding of the concept of values to help associative structures in term of protection of consumers to better position themselves in the neoliberal market and strengthen their capacity to analyze problems that can potentially arise in choice and and products in circulation on the market and provide those responsible of Associations the necessary tools to guide them in their professional capacity approach.

This initiative of MCI is a clear support to Federations, who face a lack of human, financial and material resources in order to make them operational in the field.

A training plan will be developed to strengthen the capacity for action of these federations. MCI already help them in the rental of premises and in the provision of office equipment so that they can lead a better monitoring of goods and services consumed by the population nationwide.

This seminar allowed leaders of associations to develop an ethical framework able to create trust between the actors involved and facilitate the exercise of consumer protection actions professionally.
