Haiti - Economy : Investment projects for the development of the border

On the sidelines of the 2nd Entrepreneur Fair held at the Acropolis Tour in Santo Domingo, the Dominican magnate Juan Vicini, revealed that a Dominican and Haitian investor group working on investment plans and the development of the common border in several sectors, including tourism.

Vicini declared that studies of some joint projects have already been completed and are in the hands of technicians of both countries, projects to be presented at the next meeting of Joint Bilateral Commission (CMB) on the development of both countries.

He stated that these investments were mainly four areas : Qianaminthee-Dajabón, Pepillo, Salcedo-Macasías and the Artibonite Valley.

He also spoke of the need for these investments at the border, job creators, that will benefit a large population on both sides of the border. Juan Vicini noted that the two governments would have to invest only in aspects such as the regulation of contracts, and that the entrepreneurs, international institutions and organizations working for the development of the border, will take charge to provide the funds required for the development of the border.

Recalling that the border generates each year in informal trade daily between 30 and 50 million dollars with these investments, the infrastructure and business engagement, we can expect much higher bilateral economic benefits.
