Haiti - Weather : Floods, lot of damage, multiple victims

The torrential rains that have hit many parts of Haiti since Friday have made a lot of damage and 6 victims (preliminary assessment) in the North and in the West. American Airline flights to Cap Haitien have been suspended Sunday because of bad weather.

Sunday evening, in the metropolitan area, the rains caused the collapse of a wall on a house in Fontamara 27, killing 3 children, confirmed Monday, Nadia Lochard, Departmental Coordinator of Civil Protection for the West, they are Wilda Louis-Jean, 10, Sébastien Louis Jean, 6, and a third child of 3 years whose identity was not disclosed. The children's mother was injured in this incident.

In the department of North, 3 people have died as a result of thunderstorms. In Limonade the body of Danielle Saint-Hilaire was found dead, Monday morning Exza Jean-Baptiste, 40, was electrocuted in the same commune. In Limbé the body of Jaccius Saingulier, 64, was found lifeless.

Limonade, Cap-Haïtien, Grande-Rivière-du-Nord, Limbé, Petite-Ance and Fort Saint-Michel among others, are flooded. Monday evening the extent of damage had not yet been accurately assessed. According to the first estimate (DPC, Minustah and testimonies in region), there is extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture and more than 2,000 houses are flooded and some destroyed.
