Haiti - Security : Revocation of 26 police officers

Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, approved the recommendation of dismissal of 26 police revealed the Commissioner Marc Wilkens Jean, spokesman of the General Inspectorate of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH) at a press conference "For the month of October 2014 Haiti's National Police has recommended the dismissal of 32 police officers. The Minister Sanon, approved the recommendation of dismissal of 26 police officers, including 15 for abandonment of post and 11 for various reasons.

Criticized on the behavior of the police in the last two demonstrations Marc Wilkens Jean, said that the mission of the police is to enforce the law and maintain order stating that "the PNH respects international rules in the maintenance of order and specifically the use of force during demonstrations."

Furthermore he stated that during the month of October, two police officers were placed in isolation and 100 new investigations opened. The various committees of the IGPNH have treated 69 cases and posed 508 acts of investigation including: 105 convocations, 115 hearings, 33 investigations of neighborhood and retained 150 police checks for debts to institutions and others.

Finally, 48 complaints have been received for reasons that include: abuse of power, corruption, physical attacks, threats, persecution.

Commissioner Marc Wilkens Jean took the opportunity to reminded the population that any person who considers to be victim or a police officer who is a witness of misconduct of one or more officers can complain by calling the following numbers: 22 59 11 11 and 22 60 11 11.
