Haiti - Elections : The National office of Identification is overflowed

Voters who have moved after the earthquake, of their area of residence, are invited to visit the Centers of Operations and Verification (Centres d’Opérations et de Vérification COV) to confirm where they will vote in upcoming elections. An # demarche that also allows the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to update its list of voters.

Dumesle Richardson, spokesman for the CEP said that in the various communes in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, all COV were currently operating.

For his part, Jean Francois Alexis, the head of communications for the National Identification Office (Office Nationale d’Identification ONI), called the applicants of voter cards "to collaborate and to show themselves disciplined to facilitate the work of the operators" to serve the greatest number of citizens who need a national ID card [which also serves as a voter card] in order to vote on November 28.

It would launch an appeal for patience, because in recent weeks, the ONI offices are swamped with queues where people waiting for hours and sometimes days without being sure to get and leave with the valuable and indispensable card. Despite the strong influx of applicants, ONI will issue each day that a small number of cards. This leaves some to fear that all applicants will not get satisfaction.
