Haiti - Politic : Double demonstration in Petit-Goâve

Friday 8th day of protest, the supporters of deputy Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon and of the Mayor Sandra Jules took early in the streets of Petit-Goâve to demand the return of calm and the reopening of classes.

The demonstrators walked several neighborhoods, doves in hand, ""Vive Sandra, vive Thimoléon, vive Martelly [...] we will never accept the resignation of Mayor Sandra Jules. She will remain in City Hall until the elections [...] We will give another term to Thimoléon," have declared the supporters of local authorities, while launching slogans against opposition members and Lavalas.

Members of the local opposition in turn took to the streets to demand the departure of the Mayor "As long Sandra no resign, we will continue our protest. We only want his departure," said with angry opposition protesters, who have been pushed back strongly by law enforcement to the prosecutor of Petit-Goâve.

Supporters of local government, says "If Martelly revokes Mayor Sandra, she will leave," while the protesters of the opposition says "If Martelly does not revoke Sandra Jules, he can not remain in power. We will also require his departure [...] For now, we're not there yet [...]"

Officers of the Corps of Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO) did everything to avoid confrontation between the two groups of protesters and managed to keep control of the situation. Members of the opposition that have once again blocked the national #2, however, have criticized the attitude of CIMO. No major incidents were reported.
