Haiti - Ebola : The Ministry of Health is reassuring the population...

The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) reassure the Haitian people that there is no reservoir of the virus in America, and even less in Haiti and that the risk of introduction of Ebola in the country are very low.

MSPP invites the public to remain calm and informed that a response plan has been developed in close cooperation with its partners in the national and international community including the GHESKIO, CDC, PAHO-WHO, and other UN partners in Haiti, whose the Minustah. The plan aims to prevent the introduction of viruses in Haiti and raise public awareness on the preventive measures.

The Ministry points out that the transmission of the virus requires direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or body fluids of a person or animal infected live or dead, as many exhibitions unlikely for a traveler.

Nevertheless, as a precaution and to prevent exposure to the Ebola virus, Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, the Minister of Health, recommended to avoid all non-essential travel in areas of the world that are affected.

"The United Nations in Haiti been working alongside the Haitian Government and although the risk of introduction of Ebola in Haiti are very low, we have taken preventive measures beyond the international standards » indicated Peter de Clercq, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti and Resident Humanitarian Coordinator.

To this end, the United Nations in Haiti have implemented additional procedures of authorization of travel to and from affected countries, including a double and safe medical authorization.

Also, the deployment of contingents of military troops and police from countries affected by the Ebola epidemic has been postponed until further notice. Recall that in Haiti, the UN system has a total of 43 staff (police and civilian) from the affected countries but no military contingent.

The Ministry of Public Health and Population reiterates its request to the Haitian people not to spread false information or rumors and to refer to the messages transmitted by the authorities about the disease.
