Haiti - Social : «Kore Lavi» expands its activities in the Centre department

The "Kore Lavi" program in its effort to support the national system of social protection for food security, expands its activities by starting his food vouchers distributions in the Centre department.

Approximately 4,300 vulnerable households are targeted at the level of 6 communes : Boucan-Carré, Thomassique, Hinche, Cerca Carvajal, Cerca La Source et Thomonde. The first distribution took place from July 31 to August 2 in Boucan Carré and Thomassique.

These 4,300 households will be added to the 2,600 in the department of South-East where similar distributions have started since May, particularly in Grand gosier and Anse-à-pitre.

Eligible households will receive monthly food vouchers worth 1,100 gourdes divided into 700 gourdes transfers on electronic vouchers to purchase basic food produced locally, such as rice "peyi" corn, beans and distribution of paper vouchers, worth 400 gourdes for fresh products such as fruits, vegetables, tubers, meat, favoring a balanced diet.

In addition, these households will be mobilized and accompanied in order to create of Village Associations of Savings and Credit (AVEC) to strengthen their financial independence and help them cope with emergencies and leave their condition of vulnerability.

The food voucher component of this program, will benefit 16,500 families in 15 communes of 5 departments: West, Artibonite, Central, Southeast, and the island of La Gonâve in the West department.

Should be noted that the "Kore Lavi" program, with a duration of 4 years, is implemented by a consortium of CARE, Action Contre la Faim (ACF) and the World Food Programme (WFP), with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST) in order to establish a sustainable system of social protection for households in chronic food insecurity in Haiti.
