Haiti - Humanitaire : 110 French sailors lend a hand

The 110 sailors from the frigate Ventôse, who brought 40 tons of humanitarian cargo Saturday in Port-au-Prince, went voluntary to bring a help of ground. "During our stay of three days, we have identified two projects to rehabilitate, a school and orphanage in Port-au-Prince" said Pascal Lebarbier, Commander. For the crew, "it is an honor to provide support to the Haitian people, nine months after the disaster", say the sailors in unison.

The reconstruction of 42 schools is the main mission of the armed forces in the West Indies (forces armées aux Antilles FAA) in Haiti since last March. It ends at the end of September "The world is not changed, but the result of our work is immediately seen", said Lieutenant Tanneguy Bevel, between two hammers, with fondation Solidarité-Fraternité a structure that houses an orphanage and a school in a district of the Haitian capital.

At the national school of Tabarre, about fifty sailors carries out work of painting and do-it-yourself in the classrooms renovated beforehand by the regiments of the adapted military service (régiments du service militaire adapté RSMA) of Martinique and Guadeloupe.

The doctor and the male nurses of Ventôse give consultations to the inhabitants of the district, come in mass and calmly. These Haitians, who live in houses mainly destroyed by the seism, were prevented the day before or the morning even by the direction of the school of these free consultations. They had not seen any doctor coming in the district since the eartquake.

At the orphanage Solidarité-Fraternité, five kilometers from the National School of Tabarre, 24 children in attendance rushed affectionately on the thirty other # sailors of the Ventôse come to repaint a building and to build racks. The rehabilitation of the site, partly destroyed by the seism, was carried out by the RSMA a few weeks earlier. Moved, Cyril Tag entrusts that "the smile of the children who live under these difficult conditions is worth all the thank you of the world".

Tomorrow Tuesday, the Ventôse crew will take again the sea in pursuit of drug traffickers throughout the Caribbean area.
