Haiti - Security : Progressively, Haiti strengthen training for its military officers

Monday, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Minister of Defense of Ecuador held a working meeting with Lener Renauld, the Defense Minister of Haiti to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Espinosa said that during this meeting, the cooperation agreement signed in 2010 had been revised, the work done in the last four years have exceeded the provisions of this Agreement.

She also stressed that in the agreements reached at the meeting, several new commitments had been made, including the training in the "Escuela de Formación of Soldados" (ESFORSE) of 2 aspiring weapons, logistics and war materiel services officers and forty aspiring specialists of troops.

"Ecuador is also committed, through the Ecuadorian Air Force to train a helicopter pilot officer of the National Police of Haiti during the months of August-September 2014, as well as two pilot officers in the second half of 2015. Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian army aviation brigade plans to train 10 pilot officers additional, this year."

Recalling that the relationship with Haiti in the field of defense, is based on the principles of international solidarity and respect for the sovereignty and the implementation of new forms of international cooperation, which has become a model of management, among developing countries.

The Defense Minister of Haiti, highlighted the historic ties between the two countries and thanked Ecuador which has always been willing to cooperate to the various difficulties that hit Haiti.

During his visit, the Minister Renauld attended the Presidential Guard change in the presence of President Rafael Correa, Vice-President, Jorge Glas, and Minister Espinosa.

The Ministry of Defense of Ecuador, will constitute a technical delegation composed of officials from the Ministry of Defence, of the Engineer Corps of the Army and the "Escuela Superior Militar Eloy Alfaro", to make a visit to Haiti, to monitor and evaluate the activities developed by the Corps of Engineers Military of Haiti.
