Haiti - Agriculture : MARNDR wants turning the farmer into an entrepreneur

Friday, to the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) was held ceremony certificate 10 young Engineers Agronomists who have undergone training under the project SYFAAH (Financing System and Farm Insurance in Haiti).

The SYFAAH, with a duration of 7 years and whose first pilot phase was of 3 years old, is implemented by the MARNDR and a consortium of three institutions: the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Développement International Desjardins and Financière Agricole du Québec Développement International, conjunction with the Canadian government. Note that the two Canadian institutions are recognized in finance and agricultural insurance expertise.

To the Ministry, the project SYFAAH falls within the framework of its agricultural recovery program, with a view to give a new status to the farmer and make it an entrepreneur "Agrikilti a se yon biznis li dwe ye pou pwodiktè a". As pointed out Jospeh Vernet, the Secretary of State for Agricultural Renewal in the presentation of certificates "Haitian agriculture, definitely, must be an agriculture, productive, profitable, environmentally friendly, in short generating of jobs, income and wealth."

These technical management consultants, will provide close supervision to farmers and agro-entrepreneurs, while encouraging financial institutions to give them a much more substantial credit with the objective of make profitable the agricultural enterprises.
