Haiti - Tourism : Tour of Minister of Tourism of ongoing projects in Jacmel 27/07/2014 09:38:05
Friday, Stéphanie Balimir Villedrouin, Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC), accompanied by Ms. Dithny Joan Raton, the Regional Director of MTCI, the Departmental Delegate of South-East, Pierre-Michel Lafontant and the Mayor of Jacmel, Noë Adonis, visited several ongoing projects in Jacmel. She inspected the development project of Bassin Bleu and discussed with the local authorities, leaders and members of the Organization for the Development of Bassin Bleu of Jacmel (ODBJ) on a stronger collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and on the execution of the next stage of the project: improvement of access to the last basin, toilet blocks, parking and tourist info booth. The Minister then visited the site of food kiosks built on the back of the amphitheater and the places where will be installed the street furniture at the waterfront Boulevard and alleys stairs. In the tourist areas of the Jacmel region and even in the historic center of the city, private investment is no exception. By 2015, 70 hotel rooms will be built in the heart of the historical center. Stéphanie Villedrouin visited the status of these construction sites: Colin's Hotel, cafe terrace located at the rue du Commerce, Manoir d'Adriana, hotels under construction in the avenue de la Liberté, former Club Congo of Stéphane Vital, which also has a hotel project in front of the Petion and Plaza Bolivar square. The Minister considered that it was necessary to support the private sector of Jacmel, with an investment fund available to operators in the region.
Satisfied with the construction of the Town Hall, funded by the Spanish Cooperation and directed by the Technical Board of the Historical Center (BTCH) of Jacmel, the Minister encouraged local operators, particularly those who invest in the historical center, to use theworkforce of young graduates of the School Workshop of Jacmel. Following the visit of the new market and the old Iron Market and the landfill site Boisboeuf, built with funding from the French Development Agency (AFD), the Minister has decided to provide support of his Ministry to the City of Jacmel, to repair the iron market, the management and operation of the site Boisboeuf.
