Haiti - Economy : CODEVI Industrial Park, 11 years of successful economic development

Thursday, the US Ambassador to Haiti Pamela White, together with US Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, James Brewster, toured the CODEVI Industrial Park, located Ounamithe (North-East of Haiti), with CODEVI representatives.

They visited several apparel factories and various facilities inside the park, including the health, radio, and training centers. They also toured Ouanaminthe’s binational market.

Ambassador White recalled that CODEVI has eleven years of successful economic growth and expressed the United States’ commitment to ensuring that CODEVI and its workers continue to boost Haiti’s economy. The Ambassador also focused on the security in the region. Such emphasis, she stressed, helps "combat the negative publicity that detracts from Haiti’s accomplishments and that threatens to undermine the future."

Ambassador Brewster declared that CODEVI’s success should be seen as a prime example for joint-national business ventures. He indicated that "the proximity of Haiti to the United States and the Dominican Republic, combined with the export incentives created by the HOPE and HELP acts, along with the plethora of available human capital, makes Ouanaminthe, Dajabon, and other border towns a prime, strategic location for manufacturing and export."
