Haiti - Culture : The rara Workshop of Follow Jah, touring music schools

With the support of the Embassy and the Swiss Cooperation Office, the walking band Follow Jah of Petion-ville, will present in partnership with the School of Music Holy Trinity, his workshop on rara music, during a tour in various music schools in the country.

The musicians of the walking band Follow Jah have developed this workshop around rara music to young audiences. They present the music of traditional rara, its recent evolution in the walking bands, the main instruments that compose it, etc... The workshop is designed so that children can learn to sing, play and dance with the musicians, who have adapted for them well-known songs of the young audience.

At the invitation of the School of Music at Holy Trinity, as part of its summer camp Cange, Follow Jah will present from July 24 to 28 his rara workshop before the 80 foreign participants came from Europe and the United States and 300 Haitian children participants. Together they will constitute a rara integrating traditional and modern instruments.

"We are pleased to offer musicians of Follow Jah the opportunity to promote the Haitian culture to foreigners who come to Cange and teach children, the use of these instruments related to the Haitian musical tradition," declared Bernadette Williams, director of the School of Music Holy Trinity.

During the summer, Follow Jah will also be in schools: Cats Pressoir (July 23), Dessaix Baptiste of Jacmel (August 5), "Ambassadors Institute" Carrefour Marin (7 August) and Schenastar of Carrefour (8 August).
