The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) provided an update recently at a press conference on the situation of IDP camps following the earthquake of 2010 and the process of return of families in their neighborhood.

Emmanuelle Deryce, OIM national leader of operation explained that 47,000 families out of 54,000 identifiedwere relocated through the Relocation Program of the IOM, which provides relocation assistance of 26,000 gourdes to each family. She revealed that from March to June 2014, 71 sites in which families still lived were closed and a relocation plan was underway for the remaining 7,000 families. Fabien Sambussy responsible for camp coordination to IOM reported that since 2010, the families from 1,500 camps have been relocated.

IOM, together with its partners, including OCHA and the Haitian government, plan to relocate all families living in the camps by the middle of 2015. According to the IOM, U.S. $ 20 million will be necessary to complete this relocation program.
