Haiti - Religion : Religion for Peace saddened by the statements of Cardinal Langlois on Voodoo

Following the statements of Haitian Cardinal Mgr Chibly Langlois, recently reported in the newspaper "The Guardian" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11594-haiti-religion-you-can-t-be-voodooist-and-catholic-dixit-mgr-langlois.html , describing the Voodoo as a "major social problem" for Haiti, arguing that this religion offers the "magic" but no real solutions, the inter-religious platform Religions for Peace, in a press note, said it was "deeply saddened by the recent statements [...] likely to increase confusion in the minds of the people, exacerbate existing tensions and tear more the bowels of our beloved Haiti [...]"

The platform [which includes the Roman Catholic Church in Haiti], recalls that "[...] In accordance with its mission, which is to preach tolerance, prevent conflicts and promote living together, Religions for Peace asks all religious leaders to weigh their words," recalling that "God empowers no religion to judge another [...]" adding "it is obvious to everyone that in Haiti, no religion is the problem, as neither is the solution. Let's be brave to watch together our problems in front [...]."

This note of Religion for Peace is signed by: Bishop Pierre André Dumas (Catholic Church); Mgr Zaché Duracin (Anglican Church); Reverent Pastor Eugene Bertho of the Social Mission of Haitian churches; the mambo [Vodou priestess] Euvonie G. Auguste of the Confederation of Haitian voodoo; Imam Abou Jahman of the Islamic Community of Haiti; and of Reverent Pastor Clément Joseph, Secretary General of Religions for Peace in Haiti.
