Haiti - Elections : No extension for the registration of political parties

Following the closure Wednesday at midnight, of registration of political parties wishing to participate in the upcoming elections, whose first round is set for 26 October 2014, 112 parties have registered. But so far, the partial list which was to be published by the Provisional Electoral Council Thursday, June 26, is still not available.

All that we know with certainty is that the parties present in the dialogue El rancho have registered including the President's party "Party Haitian Tèt Kale" (PHTK) which has since expanded to become the "National Gathering Tèt Kale" which includes many parties and grassroots social organizations including, among others "Konbit Ayiti" of oseph Lambert and "Ayiti An Aksyon" of Youri Latortue.

Among political organizationshaving refused to register include: Fanmi Lavalas, Kontra Pèp la, Fusion of Social Democrats, INITE, Organization of People in Struggle Organization of People in Struggle Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition (MOPOD) whose the Rally of Progressive National Democrats (RDNP) which is not yet on the list.

For the President of the CEP, Mr. Frizto Canton, inscriptions are terminated and there is no question of an extension, noting that all parties who are not registered have benefited like all other parties, of a period to do so (16 to 25 June) and they could have done it subject to a CEP completed, what hese parties did not.

Noting that if a party chose not to register, you can now ask the Electoral Council, after the deadline, to maintain open the registrations, recalling that the CEP had a unavoidable deadline to meet and that the Council did not intend to deviate from its mission.
