At the end of Phase I of the reconstruction of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH), whose 60% of the infrastructure was destroyed during the earthquake of January 2010, the First Lady, Sophia Martelly and Dr. Florence Guillaume Duperval, the Minister of Health along with the U.S. Ambassador Pamela Anne White, the French Ambassador Patrick Nicolosso and several other personalities visited this week the construction site of new premises of HUEH.

Phase I began in October 2013, involved the demolition of some buildings become dangerous, the construction of temporary structures and the relocation of 17 health services to the former Military Hospital and to the Ministry of Health to continue to provide health services to the population in parallel with the construction. Only inpatient and outpatient, maternity, orthopedics and pharmaceuticals continue to occupy a portion of still viable buildings during the reconstruction process.

The construction of HUEH, a health facility of level 3, with a total area of 25.078 m2 and a capacity of 534 beds located on two sites with a total area of 5.7 hectares, is funded to the tune of $25 million by the French government and $25 million by the U.S. Government. Haiti in turn, will provide $33.2 million for the logistics of the new Hospital.

Phase II includes construction of the "Hub" including the Technical Platform and hospitalization, the logistics building the road network and networks, whose end is planned for September 2016.

The third phase concerns the rehabilitation and redevelopment final of outpatient clinics, administration and residence, which is scheduled to end in December 2016.

Sophia Martelly was pleased with the quality of work that is being done.
