Haiti - NOTICE : New tax for visitors entering Haiti

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) inform the public in general and all persons concerned, that from 1 July 2014, visitors and passengers entering the country, holding a foreign passport, will be required to pay a tourist fee set at 10 U.S. dollars or 10 euros or 10 Canadian dollars. Children aged 0-5 years and those who hold an official or diplomatic passports are not affected by this measure.

This fee will be applied (on arrival) at bank counters provided for this purpose in the various ports and airports of entry in the country and at the level of different border crossings.

This public policy is intended to finance activities to promote the destination, the strengthening of the Tourist Police (Politour) and training for careers in tourism in Haiti.

Tourism fee has been identified as a source of income in the Finance Act for the year 2013-2014, (Article 11) adopted on 21 May at the Senate of the Republic.

It should be noted that this tax was already in place for visitors coming into Haiti by a land border from the Dominican Republic.
