Haiti - Politic : Vote of the electoral law, failure Tuesday, resumption this Wednesday...

Tuesday, the session in Senate, which should be devoted to the ratification of the amendments to the electoral law of 2013, finally was not held or lack of quorum. Only 10 senators out of 20, were present at roll call.

Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Senate, lamented the absence of half the Senate and was forced to postpone the session to Wednesday. Senator Desras urged his colleagues to be more proactive and to assume their responsibilities "Each senator has a moral, political and historical responsibility to vote the law [...] the task of the parliamentarian is first to participate in meetings regardless of the topic on the agenda," noting that the legislative, municipal and local elections must be held this year...

However, the President of the Senate, which seems to have no longer control over the Upper House, is still facing the intransigence of the Group of 6 senators of the opposition (G6) [Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aîmé (Northeast), Jean-Charles Moïse (North), Francky Exius (South), Westner Polycarpe (North), John Joël Joseph (West) et Jean William Jeanty (Nippes)] whose th fierce opponent of President Martelly, Senator Moïse Jean-Charles, who continues to claim foremost the formation of an Electoral Board in accordance with the spirit of article 289 of the Constitution.

Furthermore Tuesday, a new block of pro-government parliamentarians was formed in Senate composed of the Senators Wencesclas Lambert (President) and Senators Lucas St-Vil (Vice-President) and Edwin Zenny, Dereks Pierre-Louis and Willy Jean-Baptiste (members). This G5 who believe in the development policy of the Government, claims to have 5 allies, without specifying the names... The G5 intends to support the program and the government's actions and everything that does not jeopardize the operation and existence of republican institutions.
