Haiti - Diaspora New York : Concert of Marc Ribot in tribute to the father of Haitian classical guitar

Before the American guitarist Marc Ribot became a forefront musician of the New York scene and guitarist for celebrities like Tom Waits, Wilson Pickett and The Lounge Lizards, he began studying when he was a teenager, the guitar with a close friend of his family, Frantz Casséus father of Haitian classical guitar.

After the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, Marc Ribot has created in Port-au-Prince, the program for young guitarists Frantz Casséus, by using funds generated by the Editions of his former mentor, he inherited after his death in 1993 . This program, jointly managed by Haitiana music Company, Caracoli and Holy Trinity music school, offers a haven of creativity and stability for students of modest means.

In order to support the program for young guitarists Frantz Casséus, Marc Ribot presents a special evening (on reservation) in the room "Issue Project Room" Brooklyn, where he will propose a program of works by Frantz Casséus. Marc Ribot and two other disciples of Casséus, guitarists Mesirca Alberto (Italy) and Marc Mathelier (Haiti) will pay tribute in turn, to the Haitian composer, as well as the Trio Blastphemy (Curtis Hasselbring - trombone, Ben Holmes - trumpet, flugelhorn , Marcus Rojas - tuba), singers Mélanie Charles and Barbara (Perlow) Simon (who sang on the record "Haitiana" Frantz Casséus in 1969, reissued by Smithsonian Folkways) and finally, DJ Greg Caz, grandnephew of Frantz Casséus.

The evening also celebrates the publication of a new collection of partitions, Frantz Casséus Guitar Works for Guitar solo, compiled by Marc Ribot and Alberto Mesirca and published by Zimmerman. : Marc Ribot, Alberto Mesirca, Marc Mathelier, Mélanie Charles, Barbara Simon, Blastphemy Trio (Curtis Hasselbring, Ben Holmes, Marcus Rojas) and DJ Greg Caz.

Frantz Casséus is a guitarist and composer Haitian, born in Port-au-Prince, December 14, 1915, whose work focuses primarily on classical music and traditional Haitian music. He spent most of his adult life in New York, United States, where he died June 21, 1993. Casséus was the first professor of American guitarist Marc Ribot who played an important role in the preservation of musical heritage of Frantz Casséus. Among these efforts, Ribot made editing a collection of partitions of the guita compositions of Casséus, and recorded a CD of these works in December 1993, under the label "Les Disques du Crépuscule".
