Haiti - Politic : Cordial dialogue between the Executive and the Senators, but nothing concrete

Tuesday, President Michel Martelly accompanied in particular by the Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe and his advisers Thierry Mayard Paul, Joseph Lambert and Youri Latortue went at the invitation of the Senate at the Best Western hotel, continue the dialogue [without the mediation of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti] with Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Council accompanied for this meeting of 14 Senators.

This new step of dialogue had for objective to find a solution to the pre-electoral crisis and a modus operandi to lead to the elections before the end of 2014. Note that senators Francisco Delacruz, François Annick Joseph, Jean-Charles Moïse, John Joël Joseph and Wetsner Polycarpe, were absent from this meeting, which began shortly before noon behind closed doors.

Just for the development of the agenda, the participants have took three hours before agreeing on the agenda, including on the two essential points: the formation of the Provisional Electoral Council and the ratification by the Upper House of the amendment of the Electoral Act.

Around 5:00 pm after two other hours of discussions, nothing seems to have advanced on the two main points, although during some breaks participants confirmed that the dialogue took place in a cordial atmosphere...

This day of dialogue ended around 6:30 pm The Senator Jocelerme Privert explained in 2 minutes that the parties had during the day, put on the table, in a friendly atmosphere, all the points of disputes between the two powers and said, without providing details, that this dialogue was a significant step towards a resolution of the situation. The Senator Privert concluded by stating that the parties had agreed to continue the dialogue on Wednesday to find a definitive solution to the crisis and move towards the election.

President Martelly has refrained from any statement about what was discussed behind the doors of Louverture Salon...
