On the occasion of the commemoration of the 211th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag, Sunday, May 18, Ambassador of Haiti to Mexico, Guy G. Lamothe, issued a strong message calling on the Haitian community living in Mexico, under the duty of remembrance, to the communion with all Haitians in the country.

Dear friends of the Haitian community living in Mexico

Dear Compatriots,

On the occasion of the 211th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag, I am pleased, on behalf of the Embassy of Haiti and on my own behalf, to invite you, as part of this duty of memory, to the communion by the thinking with our fellow citizens of the country.

In doing so, it is publicly demonstrate our commitment to the symbolism of our bicolor. It is witness the permanence of our sense of belonging to the Haitian national identity. It is to note that, although that distant of the country, we remain fully his daughters and son conscious of its present and its future.

On this occasion, I find pressing that before the major challenges of the current situation in Haiti we must let's us penetrate with the spirit of unity that inspired our founding Fathers, May 18, 1803 in Arcahaie. Because what unites us is stronger than what divides us. What unites us is a common hope of a Haiti regenerated to the colors of progress and modernity. What divides us is our individual appetites, our stubbornness to destroy us at the expense of social welfare.

The time has come, like Dessalines and Petion, to look together in the same direction, and put into touch our individual differences. The time has come to erect in bundles our energies and skills, obligatory passage for the emergence of an inclusive Haiti, friendly and emerging.

May we, Dear Compatriots, in the wake of the act of Arcahaie, inspire us of two precepts wise, that of Antenor Firmin : 'Ultimately, our destiny is our own work' and that of Martin Luther King : 'We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.'
