Haiti - Social : European Union funds 6 new projects

After the last call for proposals for EIDHR (European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights), the EU has selected 54 projects from civil society. An evaluation committee has selected 6 projects proposed by Terre des Hommes Lausanne; Oxfam GB; Civil Society Initiative (CSI); Combite for Peace and Development; Haitian Solidarity of Defense of Human Rights (SOHDDH) and the Francophone Action Group for the Environment (GAFE).

Tuesday during the presentation ceremony of new projects, the Ambassador of the European Union Javier Nino Perez declared, "The promotion of human rights is at the heart of the principles and values of the European Union and the Republic of Haiti, which is born of the first assertion of human rights, namely freedom. There is no rule of law without respect for human rights, which is the cornerstone.

Human rights are never a given, nowhere in the world, but the result of an ongoing commitment of governments and society as a whole," adding "through their monitoring work, support and advocacy, the organizations of civil society play a vital role in consolidating and promoting respect for human rights. "

Spread over the country, new projects, funded to the tune of €1.2 million in total, include: the protection of children, the protection of girls and women against gender-based violence, strengthening the organization and capacity of civil society, the fight against child domestic work and networking of women's organizations.

Recall that the EU has a specific budget line to support actions on human rights in Haiti, the EIDHR is equipped on average over of €1 million per year implements projects covering a broad range of sectors through partnerships between Haitian and international NGOs. The instrument also aims to strengthen the Haitian Civil Society in general.
