Haiti - Social : 3 programs to reduce community violence

As part of its program to reduce community violence focuses on public investments with intensive labor in the priority areas of Government, the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) has announced the launch of three drainage projects and rehabilitation of canals in the town of Cap-Haitien.

These projects, carried out by the Section Reduction of Violence Community (Section Réduction de la Violence Communautaire RVC) in partnership with the Town hall of Cap-Haïtien and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will profit with the communes of Goya, Petite-Anse and Ti Rivière, belonging to the communities most affected by violence. These communities are also exposed to the risks of flood and the health issues and of violence related to the precariousness of the living conditions.

These projects are fully funded ($569.353) by MINUSTAH and consist of ditching, paving and masonry of 500 linear meters of canals in the communes of Goya, Terre maïs et Ti Rivière. They contribute to the creation of 2.553 jobs and temporary reduction of flood risks in hurricane season.

Always with the aim of continue to support the Haitian government in its efforts of afforestation, rebuilding and reinforcement of stability in Haiti, Section RVC will launch on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in the commune of Milot, a project of afforestation and installation of biomechanical structures for the National park. Evaluated with 196.210 dollars, this project will benefit 1.111 direct and 3.889 indirect beneficiaries.
