Haiti - Diplomacy : Official visit of President Martelly in Taiwan

Saturday, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that, following the official visit to Haiti, of the President of Taiwan (Republic of China), Ma Ying-jeou, 13 August 2013 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9221-haiti-politic-historic-visit-of-the-president-of-the-republic-of-china-taiwan.html President Michel Martelly at the head of a large delegation, will begin a 4-days state visit to Taiwan from Monday, April 21, while the two countries celebrate 58 years of diplomatic relations (25 April 1956)

Accompanied by his wife Sophia Martelly, the Haitian President Martelly will lead a 30-member delegation, which will include among other Duly Brutus, the new Foreign Minister, Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry, Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, as well as several high-level executives of the Government and leading figures from the business sector.

It will be the first visit of President Martelly in Taiwan as Head of State. During his stay, the President of Haiti, will meet with his counterpart, President Ma Ying-jeou and will sign a joint statement.

Chancellor David Lin and his Haitian counterpart Duly Brutus, will complete the signing of an agreement with Taiwan, aimed at strengthening the rice production in Haiti.

Tuesday, April 22, the President Martelly, accompanied by personalities from business and industry will participate in a seminar on trade and investment, organized by MOFA and the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association.

First Lady Sophia Martelly, who is known in Taiwan for his dedication to protecting the rights of women and child care, will meet Chiu Wen-ta, Taiwanese Minister of Health and Protection. A visit to the Tzu Chi Foundation, (the largest Chinese NGOs) and in Taipei Veterans General Hospital are also planned on the agenda of the First Lady of Haiti.

During their stay, the Haitian delegation will also stop in many cultural and economic institutions such as the 921 Earthquake Museum in Nantou County, the Central Taiwan Science Park, the aichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station and the Sun Moon Lake in central Taiwan.

"Martelly has been a close friend to Taiwan, and his upcoming visit highlights the strong friendship between the two nations," MOFA stressed, adding that the four-day visit will strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
