Haiti - Social : Presentation of the Special Plan of Turtle Island to UN agencies in Haiti

Friday at the UN base Logbase, located near the Toussaint Louverture airport have met the heads of all agencies of the United Nations operating in Haiti. Peter de Clerck, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator invited Klaus Eberwein, Director General of Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), to talk about FAES in particular the Special Plan of Turtle Island (Ile de La Tortue).

Klaus Eberwein presented the Special Plan of the Turtle in the broader context of 9 Plans of Special Emergency Response and Local Development decided by the Haitian Government. He reviewed the strengths of 38 actions "punch" provided by 30 September 2014, designed to reinvigorate the moribund economy of the Turtle Island and cause a flow of more than 3 million dollars of emergency assistance and of interventions in six months, in order to re-give hope and connect the tortugais to their land.

The Director General of the FAES, also stressed the fact that these actions are only for the short term and that with the main partners of the state and foreign friends and of world of international institutions, FAES committed with the population and elected officials of the Turtle Island, in a process of development of a Medium-and long-term Plan for the island.

This Plan would put much of the Municipal Development Plan (PDC), prepared with FAES and funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), in execution, over 3 years to comes, while together, all stakeholders will work to exploit all the opportunities and possibilities that present themselves today for the future of the island.

Heads of UN agencies, the most involved in the Northwest, were very interested in the presentation of Klaus Eberwein and agreed to work with him to reach a synergy in actions on the ground and also to search for other ways and means to boost financial interventions of multiple partners of the State in the Turtle.
