Monday at the Royal Oasis Hotel, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Nesmy Manigat the new Minister of National Education and Vocational Training and Michaëlle Jean UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10887-haiti-education-towards-a-national-pact-on-the-quality-of-education.html officially opened the National assizes on the Quality of Education

In the presence of several representatives of the Haitian education system, the Head of State has expressed its concern with the development of this sector "I am convinced that the quality of education is one of the important levers that will improve the economic and social conditions of the population," he said, while insisting on the establishment of a quality education from kindergarten to university, to sustain social inclusion.

President Martelly took the opportunity to reaffirm its categorical rejection of exclusion, particularly in terms of access to education. He believes that one way for Haiti to get out of underdevelopment, overcome poverty is to give the opportunity for all children to have a solid education. For this he believes it is important that the Government continues to increase its efforts and to meet the needs of the sector, by the training of educational staff, increasing the amount of textbooks available to students, the construction and repair of school facilities and the expansion of school feeding program across the country.

Besides the vocational training and several other programs for the development of the education sector, a bill is already developed on the organization and functioning of the National Agency for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which is the authority responsible for regulation and quality control of higher education and scientific research.

At the opening of the Assizes, the President Martelly insisted on the need for the State, through the mechanisms of regulation and

control present in the legislative package to accompany higher education institutions in the flight to quality, by the implementation of standards and principles of modern governance in the sector of higher education.

While recognizing the role of public authorities, to ensure the quality of education, the President Martelly continues to believe in the future of young people through education. He took advantage of the Assizes to urge national education authorities to take into account the exchange and reflection that will come out of the event in their decisions.
